#AtoZblogging challenge – I is for ice cream
Ice cream in my eyes is one of the yummiest iced deserts you can eat and most ice creams are gluten free, which is even better.
Some of my favourite ice cream experiences are not here in the UK, but in main land Europe and in New York.
When I was young I lived in Germany and as a birthday treat I loved to go to the Italian ice cream parlour around the corner from where I lived. All of the ice cream was homemade using traditional Italian recipes and was always creamy.
It might be deemed boring by some, but my favourite flavour is vanilla. I love the taste of it, especially if its made with real vanilla beans. At this ice cream parlour they made spaghetti ice. This is vanilla ice cream put though a machine so it looked like spaghetti and was smothered in strawberry sauce and then sprinkled with white chocolate. It is the perfect child treat.
I was lucky enough to visit the ice cream parlour on a recent trip back to Germany. I knew that I could not have any other ice cream other than my childhood favourite. I was so pleased to discover that it tasted juts like it did when I was young. The velvety smooth cold ice cream was full of flavour and the vanilla taste was heaven.
My other favourite place to eat ice cream is at an ice cream parlour located in a fishing town called Moraira in Spain. Here they make some of beautifully rich, creamy and tasty ice creams, including some local flavours such a Turron.
You are spoilt for choice as they have about 40 flavours. It’s their vanilla and chocolate ones that in my eyes are some of the best I have ever tasted. The chocolate is rich and sweet. It is made with Spanish chocolate which has a high coco content and it really has a rich flavour and you can taste the chocolate.
If you are ever in that part of Spain it is well worth a visit. It’s located on the High Street and you can either sit in or outside.
New York is famous for a number of things, but what surprised me on a visit there was the number of places you can buy good quality ice cream from. I visited the Ben and Jerry’s ice cream shop, at the Rockafella, during a holiday a couple of years ago. Since that trip I have not managed to forget the peanut butter and chocolate ice cream that I tried. The rich chocolate complimented the buttery peanut butter and it was heavenly.
I have not managed to find that flavour here in the UK, but I do hope that one day I will be able to eat it again.
